Watch Chicago Gay Pride Parade 2010 Replay and Highlights

Chicago's 41st Annual Pride Parade, considered the culmination of the larger Gay Pride Month, as promulgated by the City Council and Mayor of Chicago, kicked off 12:00NN on Sunday, June 27, 2010.

The Pride Parade celebrates the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) culture. It also commemorates the New York City's Stonewall Riots, a pivotal moment in the modern LGBT rights movement. The Stonewall riots were a series of spontaneous, violent demonstrations against a police raid that took place in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn, in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City. They are frequently cited as the first instance in American history when people in the homosexual community fought back against a government-sponsored system that persecuted sexual minorities, and they have become the defining event that marked the start of the gay rights movement in the United States and around the world. The event also at times serve as demonstrations for legal rights such as same-sex marriage. Across the US, the LGBT community persists to work for equal rights, recognition and ordinary visibility.

The Chicago Pride Parade route stepped off from the Halsted & Belmont corner, proceeded north on Halsted (to Broadway); then south on Broadway (to Diversey); then east on Diversey to Cannon Drive, in Lincoln Park. About 250 entries featured floats, decorated vehicles and walking groups representing businesses, organizations and individuals. The Chicago Blackhawks, champions of the 2010 NHL Stanley Cup, and the Chicago Cubs also made an appearance on Sunday's parade.

Happy Pride, Chicago!
