The 52nd Annual Target Fireworks Display is set to go off with a bang over the Detroit River on Monday night, June 21, 2010 10:06 PM - the same day as the summer solstice occurs at 7:28 AM.

The world-class pyrotechnic show, choreographed by Patrick Brault, marks the official kick-off of the summer season. The tradition is more than a half-century old, but there are brand-new features at this year's event. There will be 10,000 explosions set from three barges on the river. An additional firework known as Helicopter will be displayed and is said to be main attraction of the show.

The best free viewing is at Hart Plaza, on the RiverWalk, from Belle Isle and in Milliken State Park on Atwater east of Orleans. There will also be a "Flip Floppin’ VIP Rooftop Party" on top of the Miller Parking Garage, hosted by the Parade Company, where guests can enjoy entertainment, food, games, and children’s activities before the show begins. Admission price is $175 for adults and $75 for kids.
