Watch Aurora Borealis | Northern Lights Tonight

Skywatchers from Montana to Maine are in for a spectacular treat of the aurora borealis the next couple of nights as the first wave of stormy weather from the sun hit Earth today.

According to forecasts from the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks which tracks the phenomenon, the auroras might be viewable low on the horizon in most of Eastern South Dakota as far south as Pierre and the Sioux Falls metro area tonight and Wednesday night.

But a bigger light show is expected on Thursday, when the second wave is due to hit.
